The numbers are in. AMC’s Preacher averaged a 0.9 rating in adults 18-49 and 2.4 million viewers.

Overall, these are not the numbers many expected but they are the second largest scripted launch behind FX’s “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” at 2.0.  Many outlets have stated going up against Game of Thrones and being aired at 10:00 pm hurt overall ratings. We will see where we go from here. Our predictions of over 5 million viewers was way off. For comparison sake, Breaking Bad had 1.41 million viewers during the premiere.

In the pilot, we had the opportunity to learn that Betsy works for Quincannon Meats & Power. We also learned she is into BDSM but thats a discussion for another time. While the Quincannon name was quite apparent in the pilot we did not get to meet Odin himself. That will change in Season 1, Episode 2. Here is a photo of Odin with his “employees”

Best Character in the Pilot

During the Preacher pilot we saw a few flashbacks of Jesse’s father, John Custer. In the flashbacks his father was held at gunpoint and eventually show. In the comic books Jesse’s father was shot by Jody, Jesse’s grandmother’s right hand man. It will be interesting to see how this plays out as it is much different and will change a few story arcs.

As we learn more about Jesse’s father and why he was shot we will post it here. For now, we can assume he was a preacher and he wants his son to become a Preacher in his hometown of Annville, Texas as well. We assume they are playing out the “coming home” story arc to build the characters and then Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy will hit the road in search of God.

Another important plot with Jesse’s father is the fact that he went to Vietnam. There are a few story arcs that necessitate this playing out as Jesse’s meets one of his friends that has the same lighter.

Who do you think was the best character in the pilot? Tulip O’Hare was amazing. The jokes about Jesse’s hair and the foreshadowing of her love of Jesse with the two kids in Kansas. Wow!

We know he is not in the pilot, but it has been confirmed that he is in episode 2, 3 or 4. We meet Odin Quincannon and Saint of Killers before we meet Herr Starr but he does show up very early in the series. We may only get a brief glimpse or foreshadowing of the character but he is in there.
