Note that “Copyrights and trademarks for the comic, and other promotional materials are held by their respective owners and their use is allowed under the fair use clause of the Copyright Law.” This is why most sites with free comic books are taken down quickly.
The answer is no. Just two months ago the website Hello Comic was up and available for anyone to read free comics. All 66 issues of Preacher were available on HelloComic.com. In fact, this is where I re-read the entire series in the months of February and March 2016. Unfortunately, this domain has expired and there are no other places online to read Preacher comics for free. Below are some affordable options:
The best option is to buy the Trade Paperbacks on eBay or at your Local Comic Shop (LCS). Instead of buying all 66 issues of Preacher you can buy the TPBs at a much lower price. Generally, brand new TPBs run between $14.99 and $19.99. You can often find used copies on Barnes and Noble and Amazon for around $5, but some are a little harder to find than others. If you want to read the entire series, go on eBay and get all six (re-released) or nine (original) TPBs for under $100.
For those interested in purchasing each TPB individually, here they are:
Preacher Book One (Preacher #1-12)
Preacher Book Two (Preacher #13-26)
Preacher Book Three (Preacher #27–33, Preacher Special: Saint of Killers #1–4, and Preacher Special: Cassidy: Blood and Whiskey)
Preacher Book Four (Preacher #34–40, Preacher Special: The Story of You-Know-Who, The Good Old Boys and One Man’s War)
Preacher Book Five (Preacher #41-54)
Preacher Book Six (Preacher #55–66 and Preacher Special: Tall in the Saddle)
Note that there are also nine (9) trade paperbacks that are smaller. Confirm that you are getting all 66 issues of Preacher before you make the purchase. The nine are as follows:
Preacher: Gone to Texas – Preacher #1–7
Preacher: Until the End of the World – Preacher #8–17
Preacher: Proud Americans – Preacher #18-26
Preacher: Ancient History – Preacher Special: Saint of Killers #1-4, Preacher Special: The Story of You-Know-Who, and Preacher Special: The Good Old Boys
Preacher: Dixie Fried – Preacher #27-33 and Preacher Special: Cassidy – Blood and Whiskey
Preacher: War in the Sun – Preacher #34-40 and Preacher Special: One Man’s War
Preacher: Salvation – Preacher #41-50
Preacher: All Hell’s A-Coming – Preacher #51-58 and Preacher Special: Tall in the Saddle
Preacher: Alamo – Preacher #59-66
There are almost always a handful of auctions or buy it now options on eBay for around $60 to $80.
Your local Barnes & Noble shop likely does not have all six books. In fact, we have scoured about 10 local Barnes & Noble locations and most have very little inventory. With the AMC TV show being a huge hit, it is best to use your search skills on eBay to grab the TPBs.
Some may wonder if their local library has a copy of these books. It is highly unlikely. When I say highly unlikely I mean, absolutely not! This is very controversial material and libraries are not going to have copies of this content. You will be extremely lucky to find these comic books or trade paperbacks at your library.
